Hi, I'm Dave. For the last 8 years or so I've worked in online app and mobile app interface design with a background in web design, graphic design for web and print and digital animation in the years preceding. I worked as the effects animator (and later also character animation) for a 9 network kids cartoon "Pixel Pinkie" produced here in Hobart, Tasmania by Blue Rocket. After 2 seasons of that I moved on to graphic design for a label printing company, back to Blue Rocket briefly to work on games for an interactive website for an ABC kids show "My Place" (you'll need to install and enable the now largely defunct Flash player to see that site). Recently I've created mobile games and a 3D virtual supermarket kiosk for a famous zoo and have made a bunch of HTML5 banner ads in my spare time. If you've managed to catch an online animated MyState ad in the last year or two then I've probably done it
I see myself as a good middle-ground between creatives and full blown developers. I understand artistic subtleties that are often overlooked by the purely technically minded but I also understand how to code and develop solutions. I'm not looking to leave my current job if I can avoid it as I love it, but I am looking to supplement it in my spare time, say, making banner ads and other HTML5/javascript projects. If you've got a vision for an ad or a part of a website but lack the technical know-how to make it work the way you envision it then I'm your guy.
This site is rather rushed. Life's been busy lately and I haven't really needed a site for a while so please excuse its general ugliness. Also, I've been getting all obsessed with Art Deco but those guys spent way longer on super cool patterns than I have time for right now.
